Moving Boulder Base for Statue to Temporary Site
August 14, 2010

Rosecrans was the only major general from the Civil War without a statue.  He was instrumental in seeing that statues were erected for others but somehow, he was overlooked by his peers.

Movement is afoot to rectify this error.  Tom Paul, who portrays General Rosecrans in many reenactments and living history pageants,  spearheaded the campaign.

General William Starke Rosecrans, a Kingston Township native, invented the round wicks for candles,  served as a U.S. Senator, was Lincoln's first choice for vice-president, served as an Ambassador to Mexico, helped incorporate the Southern Pacific Railroad, served as Treasurer of the United States and also led men successfully in battle.  While at West Point, he made some enemies which carried over on the battlefields of the Civil War.   Thus General Rosecrans was always on the Edge of Glory, as one biographer wrote.

General Rosecrans Elementary School is the first conquest in bringing the General into the glory which would surely have been his had the times been different.  Big Walnut Board of Education voted on October 12, 2009, to name the new elementary school after the General.
