Charles Wesley Rosecrans
1822-1865

Charles Wesley "Wes" Rosecrans was born in Homer, Ohio, in 1822 third son of Crandall and Jemima (Hopkins) Rosecrans.

In the 1850 census he (age 28) is living with his mother Jemima (53) and Lydia (13) in Burlington Township. Licking County, Ohio.  Lydia's last name is Rosecrans in this census.  She is peobably his wife, Mary Lydia Runnels.

In 1856 he was living in Lafayette, Keokuk County, Iowa, as a farmer.  In the 1856 Iowa census his mother, Jemima  (age 58), is living with them.  Next door is the Daniel and Margaret Rosecrans family. 

Wes married Mary Lydia Runnels who was 19 in the 1856 census.  Wes was 34.  They had a daughter Mary Emend who became a Dominican nun in Galvestin, Texas.

Mary Lydia died in January, 1861.

Only Charles (38) and his mother Jemima (64)  show on the 1860 census for Keokuk County, Iowa.  Charles died in May 1865 and is buried there.
