General Rosecrans bought 16,000 acres
for $2.50 per in 1869 . Rosecrans Ranchero Sold it for $50 per acre in the 1870s. Gardena built there around Figaro Street on what would be the Los Angeles and Redondo Railroad. The railroad went down Vermont Street instead so the community moved. In 1898, his son, Carl F. Rosecrans, became owner of Rosecrans Rancho and was the major catalyst for the building of the San Pedro rail line through Gardena between Los Angeles and San Pedro. |
