General Rosecrans Sent a Letter to General J. D. Cox, Secretary of the Interior |
|
General Jacob Dolson Cox, the 28th
Governor of Ohio, was appointed Secretary of the Interior in 1869
under President Ullyses S. Grant. The appointment only lasted 19
months. After President Grant failed to back Cox up against party
politicians, who thrived on the corrupt patronage system then
rampant in the Interior Department, Cox resigned. General Ward B. Burnett was a veteran of the Mexican War Rosecrans was introducing to Cox. |
